BARUM

Barum is a manufacturer of tires based in the Czech Republic. Barum tyre company was created as a subsidiary of Bata Shoes who made rubber soled boots

in Czechoslovakia. The high costs of rail transport prompted the Bata company to operate its own fleet of vehicles to transport goods by road and in 1934

To counteract the high costs involved in importing tyres for its fleet of vehicles, the company decided to produce them itself. In 1945 the three major

rubber-producing companies in Czechoslovakia are merged, Bata in Zlin, Rubena in Nachod and Mitas. The Bata family lose control of the company which is

seized by the state and the Barum company is born.


In 1966 the construction of a brand new fabrication facility begins in Otrokovice and the following year the first radial tyre is produced at the factory

in Zlin. The factory is named Rudy Rijen after the October revolution in the Soviet Union.


In 1972 Tyre manufacture gets underway in Otrokovice. Tyre production is shifted from Zlin to Otrokovice.


In 1992 A joint venture agreement is signed with Continental AG.

in Hanover, Lower Saxony, Germany. Continental is the world's 4th largest tire manufacturer. Continental was founded in 1871 as a rubber manufacturer,

Continental-Caoutchouc und Gutta-Percha Compagnie.After acquiring Siemens AG's VDO automotive unit in 2007 Continental was ranked fourth in global

OEM automotive parts sales in 2009 according to a study sponsored by Ernst & Young LLP.


In 2008, Continental appeared overextended with its integration of VDO and had since lost almost half of its market capitalization when it found itself to

be the takeover target of the family-owned Schaeffler AG.[8] By 2009 Schaeffler successfully installed the head of its motor division at the helm of

Continental.

On 6 September 2012, Continental returned to the benchmark DAX index of 30 selected German blue chip stocks after a 45-month absence. Schaeffler AG is

the controlling shareholder and currently owns 49.9% of Continental shares.

GOODYEAR

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company is a global manufacturing company founded in 1898 by Frank Seiberling and based in Akron, Ohio. Goodyear manufactures

tires for automobiles, commercial trucks, light trucks, SUVs, race cars, airplanes, farm equipment and heavy earth-mover machinery.


The company was named after Charles Goodyear, inventor of vulcanized rubber. The first Goodyear tires became popular because they were easily detachable and

required little maintenance.[citation needed]


Goodyear is also known for the Goodyear Blimp. The first Goodyear blimp flew in 1925. Today it is one of the most recognizable advertising icons in America.

The company is the most successful tire supplier in Formula One history, with more starts, wins, and constructors' championships than any other tire

supplier. They pulled out of the sport after the 1998 season. It is the sole tire supplier for NASCAR series.


Goodyear is a former component of the Dow Jones Industrial Average. The company opened a new global headquarters building in Akron in 2013.

DUNLOP


Dunlop is a brand of tyres owned by Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company subsidiaries in North America, Australia and Europe. In other regions of the world, the Dunlop brand is owned by other companies. In India the brand is owned by Dunlop India Ltd. whose parent company is the Ruia Group, and in the rest of Asia and Africa by Sumitomo Rubber Industries.

In 1985, Dunlop Rubber Company was acquired by BTR plc, and Sumitomo acquired the rights to manufacture and market Dunlop branded road tyres. Sumitomo did not acquire any Dunlop company. In 1997 Sumitomo gained agreement to use the Dunlop name in its corporate name, and changed the name of its UK subsidiary to Dunlop Tyres Ltd.

In 1999 Sumitomo and Goodyear began a joint venture by which Sumitomo continued to manufacture all Japanese-made tyres under the Dunlop name, while Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company bought 75% of the European and North American tyre businesses of Sumitomo.

The company has extensive manufacturing operations throughout the world. With the closure of the Washington plant in 2006, Goodyear Dunlop ceased mainstream car and lorry tyre production in the UK.

Dunlop maintained a motorsport manufacturing operation located in a corner of the original Dunlop factory (nicknamed "Fort Dunlop") in Erdington, Birmingham,

established in 1891 until May 2014. This factory produced specialised vintage, motorcycle and touring car tyres, and produced about 300,000 specialisedRacing tyres per year. On 30 May 2014, the Birmingham factory ceased tyre production, ending Dunlop tyre production in the UK.

KUMHO


Kumho Tire Co., Inc. LSE: KHTC, formerly known as Samyang Tire, is a South Korean tire company. Headquartered in Gwangju, South Korea, it is a subsidiary of the Kumho Asiana Group, along with Asiana Airlines, South Korea's second largest airline.

Kumho means "bright lake" in the Korean language. In the European Union, Kumho Tire is known as Kumho Tyres.

An industrial conglomerate chaebol, Kumho Tires manufactures a full range of tires under the Kumho and Marshal brands.

Kumho Tires runs three manufacturing facilities in South Korea: the Pyeongtaek Plant, the Gokseong Plant and the Gwangju Plant which includes the Kumho Research and Development center mentioned below. There are a further three plants in China: the Tianjin Plant, the Gaoxin Plant (in Nanjing) and the Changchun Plant. There is also one plant in Vietnam in the Binh Duong Province.

Kumho Tires exports tires worldwide and has a global network of sales organizations.

It has three centers for research and development, with the largest in Gwangju, South Korea. The other two centers are in Akron, Ohio and Birmingham,

England. These service the US and European tire markets respectively. Other research centers are located in Buchholz (Germany) and Tianjin (China).

SAVA


Goodyear Dunlop Sava Tires is a subsidiary of the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. It is located in Kranj, Slovenia. The company was formed in 1998 under

the name of Sava Tires d.o.o., although the tire industry on this location has started already in 1920.


It employs over 1,400 people. It is one of the biggest and most successful Slovenian companies. Since 2006, the company is part of Goodyear Dunlop Central

& South-East Europe organisation, the headquarters of which is also located in Kranj.Tyres are produced in Slovenia, Poland(by Debica), France (by Goodyear)

and Turkey by the same as in France. There is thought that a part of the production will be moved in Germany.

BF GOODRICH


BFGoodrich is an American brand of tires. It is now separated from the Goodrich company and owned by Michelin. Originally pioneered by the American Industrial Company Goodrich Corporation, the Reavis family sold naming rights to Michelin in 1988. Previous to the sale, BFGoodrich was the first American tire manufacturer (since 1896). It made tires for the then new Winton car.

BFGoodrich tires have been fitted to several noteworthy historical vehicles:

1903 The first car to cross the United States was fitted with BFGoodrich tires.

1927 Charles Lindbergh's airplane, the "Spirit of St. Louis," which made the first successful non-stop flight across the Atlantic, was fitted with BFGoodrich tires.

1977 The Columbia space shuttle was fitted with BFGoodrich tires during construction.

BFGoodrich have been involved with several competitions and enjoyed success with 17 victories in Baja California Competitions and 5 times winner of the Paris–Dakar Rally. It was also a tyre provider in the 2006 and 2007 World Rally Championship.

FIRESTONE

The Firestone Tire and Rubber Company is an American tire company founded by Harvey Samuel Firestone in 1900 to supply pneumatic tires for wagons, buggies, and other forms of wheeled transportation common in the era. Firestone soon saw the huge potential for marketing tires for automobiles. The company was a pioneer in the mass production of tires. Harvey Firestone had a friendship with Henry Ford. Firestone used this relationship to become the original equipment supplier of Ford Motor Company automobiles, and was also active in the replacement market.

In 1988, the company was sold to the Japanese Bridgestone Corporation.

Firestone was originally based in Akron, Ohio, also the hometown of its archrival, Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, and another two mid-sized competitors, General Tire and Rubber and BF Goodrich. Founded on August 3, 1900, the company initiated operations with 12 employees. Together, Firestone and Goodyear were the largest suppliers of automotive tires in North America for over 75 years. In 1906 Henry Ford chose Firestone for Model T original equipment tires.

In 1918, Firestone Tire and Rubber Company of Canada was incorporated in Hamilton, Ontario and in 1922, the first Canadian-made tire rolled off the line on September 15. During the '20s, Firestone produced the Oldfield tire, named for racing driver Barney Oldfield.

In 1926, the company opened one of the world's biggest rubber plantations in Liberia, West Africa, spanning more than 1 million acres. 1926 was also the year that the company opened its first Firestone Complete Auto Care store (Firestone Complete Auto Care is a division of Firestone that offers automotive maintenance and repair).

The company founded and started in 1917 in a joint venture between Yokohama Cable Manufacturing and B.F. Goodrich. In 1969 the company expanded to the United States as Yokohama Tire Corporation. The Aspec A300 was the driving force behind its tremendous rise. Branding, especially in Japan, will often use "ADVAN" instead of Yokohama.
